Love of treasure hunting is one of many things Gail Armstrong and Ellen Johnson have shared over the past 30 years. For nearly 18 years, the pair have made their collection available to the public in one of the original retail spaces in South Austin at 1704 South Congress Ave.

The building was constructed using bricks recycled from an old downtown smokestack that was no longer in use. Caldwell's opened in 1929, just in time for the Great Depression.

Visit the shop Monday-Saturday 10-6:30 and 12ish-6 on Sunday.
